FIRST

What is FIRST?

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology.

FIRST is #morethanrobots. FIRST participation is proven to encourage students to pursue education and careers in STEM-related fields, inspire them to become leaders and innovators, and enhance their 21st century work-life skills.

What is FRC?

The FRC, which is organized annually by the FIRST Foundation and brings together high school students from all over the world in an exciting sports atmosphere, has team sport design. Robots should not be intentionally damaged during the competition. The First Robotics Competition guides teams through the principles of collaboration, friendship, teamwork, kindness, and professionalism. Students are encouraged to be friendly not only with their teammates but also with their opposing team members.

At the FRC, teams of high school students, coaches and mentors work for six weeks to design industrial-sized robots that can compete in that year's FRC Championship. Robots work to complete tasks such as throwing balls into the castle, placing tires on shelves, hanging them on bars. Game missions change every year. FRC tools are provided with a kit of standard parts sets during the initial period, while they are also allowed to purchase and manufacture custom parts. Each season ends with an exciting FRC Championship. FIRST Robotics Competition is one of four robotics competition programs organized by FIRST, and the other three are FIRST LEGO League Explore, FIRST LEGO League Challenge, and FIRST Tech Challenge.

STEM

The STEM expansion, which is Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, includes topics in all sub-disciplines, including Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. But STEM education is much more than just bringing these subject topics together, and it has a curriculum that aims to provide students with a skills-based and industry-focused interdisciplinary education.

Science Logo

Science

Study of the natural world based on facts learned through experiments and observation. FIRST students work to apply the scientific method to every-day life...and robots!

Technology Logo

Technology

Science or knowledge put into practical use to solve problems or invent useful tools. With computer-aided design, Java or C++ code bases and more, team members dive into future tech.

Engineering Logo

Engineering

The application of science and math to solve problems. FIRST students figure out how things work and find practical uses for their discoveries.

Math Logo

Math

Includes the study of such topics as quantity, structure, space and change. Interdisciplinary teaching of all four STEM fields helps students apply all they learn to problem solving in the real world.
